This is the longest 289 pages I have ever read. I don't mind sex in the stories I read, I just appreciate a bit of a plot to go along with it. The very narrow plot line of two damaged people coming together and creating or reacting to one misunderstanding after another as they fall in love is padded with opportunistic sex, angry sex, nearly public sex, semi-coerced sex, distract her/him with sex sex, because he/she is sad, mad, or depressed sex, rough sex and finally loving, romantic sex.Oh, there's a controlling, bitchy mother, a bon vivant brother and a few other secondary characters who are thrown into the mix, but their parts are so negligible it isn't worth describing them.
Bottom line: I love a good love story and this one certainly had potential, but I just felt like this one was more of a sex manual than an actual novel.

More like a 4.5 and I only deducted half a star because I liked Seven Years to Sin a little better.
That said, I loved this book. It was simply luscious. If I keep reading these wonderful Historical Romances I'm going to run out of adjectives before too long.
The building of trust between Isabella (Pel) and Gray was slow but by no means tedious. The sexual tension and passion between these two was palpable and built up as the book went on.
I was drawn to these characters and really wanted them to have their HEA after both living through disastrous relationships that made them wary of loving and trusting again.
The secondary characters were all important to the book, and as in Seven Years In Sin, there is another simmering love story that was also blossomed throughout the book.
I devoured every page of this book and Sylvia once again took me on a sweeping journey in time and had me living every moment with the characters.
This is the 3rd book I've read from this author and so far I have loved all 3 and can't wait to read more from her.
A marriage in name only~~marrying for the convenience of keeping paramours from asking each of them for marriage (afterall, [they each assumed]..if they were married to one another, they could pursue their paramours without said paramours wanting marriage)..it seemed like the perfect solution for Lord Gerard Grayson and Lady Isabel Pelham.
Then Lord Gerard Grayson has a life altering epiphany when he suddenly loses a mistress, [whom he genuinely loved], to death. Disappearing for four years to heal and introspect...to examine his life--he returns to his wife, Isabel, a morally changed man and one who no longer desires mere "friendship" with her, but a real marriage. He intends to honor his former mistress (and friend) by changing who he is from a morally corrupt womanizer to a staunch, upright gentleman. However, Lady Isabel Grayson (known as "Pel") does NOT desire anything more than friendship of her husband. She avoids any emotional attachments and only wants her husband as a friend...nothing more.
So he intends to seduce and win her....ever unaware of her hurtful past of such seductions and her reasons for fleeing such serious relationships or "falling in love". Yet Lord Grayson is determined to have his wife in more than name only. He's fallen in love with her. GAME ON!!
When she begins to captiulate and desire him, she fights it with everything she has within her as she never again wants to be emotionally injured by loving someone who no longer wants her...or "moves on". Her capitulation is slow and delicious.
This story was just so much gosh darned fun! Chasing your "in name only" wife until you catch each other. How deliciously fresh and original is this? This...hawt, sexy, raw 19th Century romance - - where normally all we readers find of this genre (Historical Romances) are innocent and semi-perfect...and while those types of romance novels have their place...they do get boring. But THIS....THIS is hawt, edgy, sexy and naughty.
And can I say THANK GOD for Epilogues??
Brava and Encore Ms. Day!!
Sylvia Day !❤️❤️ It doesn’t get any better! Her books are a must read. I haven’t read one I didn’t love!!
Sylvia Day is a new author to me, recommended by my sister. Characters were interesting. Not very often that the female lead character is known openly for her affairs. Good beginning...then turned into just another historical romance...same old, same old. The erotica was not excessive and, for the most part, tastefully done. I'll be reading more from this author but I can't say she is among my favorites...yet.
What a wicked book! I had first borrowed this book from a friend of mine, which led me to wanting my own copy. I think I've read this so many and just can't get enough! so well written, love Pel and Gray, such a great fun book to read!!!
