Area 7 Scarecrow Series Matthew Reilly Books
I love Matthew Reilly's writing--the fast-paced action, the settings, the situations and the plot twists and, yes, the characters too. Even Reilly himself admitted that he's in this game to write about action and adventure, and if character development has to get axed as a result, then so be it. But for me, that honestly isn't the case. Getting to see Shane Schofield back in action, along with Libby Gant and Gena "Mother" Newman, as well as learn a bit more about their backstories, was great. And the setting - a top secret military base in the middle of the American desert - complete with a map which gets updated at the beginning of each "confrontation" - is SO much fun to pore over and try to guess what will happen next. A bit implausible at times (yet never unrealistic) and a very liberal use of exclamation points in the narrative, sure. But it's so much FUN and far better than any action movie out there (in fact, I really wish his books would get made into movies, but then again, books are always better.)
I thoroughly enjoyed this second book of Matt Reilly's (that I have read) and can't wait to read more. Bravo!

Area 7 Scarecrow Series Matthew Reilly Books Reviews
Read Ice Station in 5 days. I thought then that this Shane dude should have been killed after the first 100 pages, but hey, hes the hero, even tells you that mid way through the book. But it did make you a fan of Scofield. But Area 7 is way over the hill with the credability of even a Force Marine. If you are going to make the hero invincible, at least make if plassable (sp). So i guess i can say i am through with Schofield. May try out one of Reillys other series.
as always matthew reilly does it again. his books are all thrill rides. the action starts from page one and doesn't stop till the last page. if you like adventure and action books then this one is for you. i couldn't put it down.
Non-stop action is the hallmark of Matthew Reilly's books. And this one is no exception. It is a fun read from beginning to end. I took away one star for two reasons first the maps which are a real necessity, are too small to read, at least in the kindle edition. So I kept getting lost in the geography of the story. And second, some of the action was so improbable as to be impossible. Even with these flaws I would still recommend this book to anyone.
I was thrilled to find Area 7 was available. I picked Ice Station up in Australia and was about a third of the way into it when I bought Reilly's other books, it was so good. Now I don't want to sound like I have no ability to suspend my disbelief, as Ice Station was a flash-bang ride which would realitically kill even a superhuman, but Area 7 was a little too much to be believed. The hero is inhumanly fast, strong and tough, with the endurance of the Terminator. I have no problem with this, I know it's not a non-fiction book. At the same time, a few of the feats Scarecrow does are SO impossible that they defied even my ability to suspend my own disbelief. That said, it was a fun read, just not what I'd hoped in the follow-up to the magnificent Ice Station. I understand Reilly is working on a third Scarecrow book. Can't imagine where he'll get sent next, or what he'll have to survive, but I'll get it regardless.
The action sequences in this book run like the fevered dreams of a malaria patient that accidentally got LSD instead of quinine. They don't suspend disbelief; they set it on fire and drop it down an elevator shaft. Yet he ties the story line together so masterfully with clever twists and details that this reader just has to lean back and enjoy the wild ride.
Great book, a lot of suspense and action!
SPOILERS!!!
So glad Mother survived, I was upset when she supposedly died. My biggest complaint, however, was the lack of conclusion to the virus situation. Did I miss something? There was no explanation as to what had happened or its survival outside the complex. Was it destroyed, was it still viable in China, will it be smuggled out again? Maybe I missed something, but I was disappointed there was no clear conclusion regarding an important part of the book. Nonetheless, a solid four stars. Good book.
It's hard to review books honestly because different people have different taste and interest in books..I, personally have read every book by Matthew Reilly and I like all of them equally..his writing is extremely fast paced, very graphic and chock full of swearing..but I dont really mind that, personally..Sean Mangan reads all of Matthew's books very well and changes his ton of voice depending upon the tempo overall I would definitely get any Matthew Reilly book on audio
